Protomold is growing on three continents.

We’ve expanded our capabilities and improved our interface with customers.

And we’ve gotten some very nice recognition, locally, nationally, and internationally.

Expansion at Home
As we’ve mentioned in previous emails, domestic demand required additional manufacturing space, so we opened a second factory location a block from our first location. That second facility is now fully operational bringing total US operations to about 66,000 square feet.

Expansion in Europe
Protomold recently established a European subsidiary with a headquarters and manufacturing facility in Telford UK and a sales office in Mosbach, Germany. With 12 CNC machining centres and a staff of 30, the Telford facility soundly beat first year forecasts and won a very prestigious award. (Keep reading for details).

Planned Expansion in Asia
Protomold recently incorporated in Japan and plans to be open by mid-2007 to serve customers in that country.

Delivering Bigger Parts
Meanwhile, with our manufacturing capacity getting bigger, some of the folks in engineering wanted to know why we couldn’t make the parts bigger as well. In response, we’ve increased our maximum milling depth to 3.0 inches from the parting line. In case you haven’t got a calculator handy, that could give you up to 6.0 inches of maximum part height depending on the placement of your parting line. Maximum X and Y limitations are still 14 and 7.5 inches, respectively.

Delivering Clearer Feedback
ProtoQuote®, our online quoting system, now provides part analysis in 3D. It’s called ProtoView®, and if you use Internet Explorer you can see a demo. Just use your mouse to grab the part and rotate & zoom it in three dimensions.

Thanks for Keeping Us Growing
Here in Minnesota, The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal has named Protomold to its 2006 Fast 50. Protomold ranked #11 on the 2006 list after having been number one in 2004 and number four in 2005.

Nationally, Inc. Magazine has named Protomold, for the second consecutive time, to the Inc. 500, its list of the fastest growing companies in America. Protomold ranked 267 with three-year growth of almost 500 percent. We were also named—again —to the prestigious Deloitte Fast 500, a list of the fastest growing technology companies in North America. Protomold was number 129 on that list.

And in the UK, Protomold won the 2006 Manufacturing Excellence Award for Integrated e-business. Presented by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, it has been described as “the toughest industry award in which to succeed,” and quite a feat for an operation that’s been operating for less than a year.
