We have just received our first round of external financing, from Entegris Inc., of Chaska, Minnesota. Entegris is a $400 million public company that releases over 200 new products per year, most of which have injection molded components. Entegris has been one of our best customers, and now they have decided to invest in our company too. John Goodman, Entegris's Chief Technical Officer has joined Protomold's board of directors. The economic slowdown has been felt widely in the conventional mold tooling industry, but it has been a boon to Protomold. Our mills have been running non-stop since the beginning of the year and we have been regularly setting new monthly sales records. This is no time to stop developing new products, but with the high cost of conventional injection mold tooling, and the normal risks of launching a new product, smart product management teams are turning to Protomold for a low cost, low risk, fast turnaround alternative. When you "Prototype with
Protomold," you get to test, prove and demonstrate your designs
before making the major commitment to hard tooling. Protomold aluminum tooling is good for at least 10,000
parts, so it is also great as bridge tooling for pilot production and
market testing. If volume requirements warrant, production tooling can
be procured while shipping product using Protomold parts in the
interim.
Our success has occasionally caused our lead times to get pushed out further than we like to have them. We are using the new investment capital to build capacity, and as of this writing, we have gotten our standard lead time back down to 10-15 working days.
